My Attempt at a Workout Log

Okay, so yesterday evening, on Tuesday night, I took the 5:19 train home to Long Island and got to the gym around 6:30, and with an hour to work out, decided first to test my hurt knee to see if it was feeling any better on the treadmill. I warmed up for a few minutes, then increased my pace ever two minutes, going from a 12 minute mile to about an 8:45 minute mile at 15:30 before taking a 2 minute walkbreak, then I did 5 minutes of hill walking with the incline at 10 and the pace at about 3.5 mph. It felt good! And ironically my knee stopped twinging the faster I went and when I slowed down again that's when the familiar pain returned. But I scorched about 300 calories in 30 minutes, which included nearly 5 minutes of cooldown. I felt good about that. I really like cross training and the feeling it gives me.

So then I did 5 minutes on the arm-bike (I'm sure there is a more technical name for it but don't know what it is.)

Then I went to the smaller circuit weight room and alternated upper and lower body exercises with ab / core exercises for about 20 minutes, and finally I finished up with about 5 minutes of injury prevention exercises on the step and floor that I learned in PT and 5 minutes of stretching. I continually feel like I ought to be doing more stretching and that it would help me but it's hard to know what to cut out with limited time. Hmmm....

On Monday morning I got my ass out of bed at 5:30 and rode the stationary bike at our house for about 35 minutes, which I think was about 250 calories, I can't remember, but I kept the RPM pretty low and difficult. I wanted to do that this morning also but the thought of the hump day sent me back to bed, as it often does.

In other fitness news, I am considering joining the Galloway Half Marathon Training program this year or simply training on my own and using that money for a yoga class near my house. I have to decide what will be most conducive to my more immediately pressing goals of needing to lose about 25 lbs still.

Meanwhile, I continue to listen to Phedippidations at work and today one of Steve (the host)'s suggestions was to set the lifetime goal of running around the world. He has been a regular runner for about 10 years and has a very detailed workout log in which he has recorded that he has run about 12,000 miles, and the earth is about 24,900 miles around the equator so it should take him another 10 to get there. 20 years of committment...sounds daunting but maybe I will start trying to keep a log of my workouts so that I can at least have a record in case that number ever does sound possible.

Current Mood: surprisingly excited for a Wednesday

    (Okay Steve, I'll bite: 24,901 miles - 2 miles = 24,899 miles (it's only a dent but it's a start!) :)
